Mini Miner's Calendar

Annual Employee Calendar

Mini Miners Calendar is an annual employee engagement initiative that celebrates the creativity of employees’ children. Team members are invited to submit their children’s artwork through an internal competition, with selected illustrations featured in a professionally designed calendar distributed across the organisation. The initiative strengthens employee engagement while showcasing the imagination and talent of the Thiess community.

Challenges & Objectives

Project Overview

I was responsible for designing the Mini Miners Calendar, transforming a collection of children’s artwork into a professionally designed annual publication. The project involved creating a playful yet polished layout that celebrated each young artist while maintaining Thiess’ brand identity and delivering a calendar that employees could proudly display throughout the year.

Challenges

The primary challenge was working with artwork created in different styles, sizes, colours, and formats while ensuring every submission was presented fairly and consistently. The design needed to balance creativity with functionality, maintain the integrity of each illustration, and produce a calendar that was visually engaging, easy to use, and aligned with the Thiess brand.

Objectives

Design an engaging and professionally produced annual calendar that celebrates employees’ families and recognises the creativity of participating children. The objective was to create a memorable keepsake that encouraged employee participation, strengthened workplace culture, and showcased the winning artwork in an appealing and meaningful way.

Final Outcome

The Mini Miners Calendar was successfully produced as a vibrant and engaging annual publication that celebrated the creativity of employees’ children while fostering a sense of community across the organisation. The finished calendar combined professional editorial design with authentic, hand-created artwork, resulting in a memorable keepsake that reinforced Thiess’ culture of recognition, inclusion, and family engagement.
