Thiess Group Sustainability Report

Annual Sustainability Report

The Thiess Group Sustainability Report 2024 is one of the company’s most significant annual corporate publications, communicating Thiess’ environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance, sustainability commitments, and progress against strategic objectives. The report serves as a key communication tool for clients, investors, financial institutions, and other stakeholders, demonstrating how the business is creating long-term value through responsible and sustainable operations.

During my secondment to Australia, I partnered directly with the Sustainability team to design and produce the report, ensuring complex information was presented in a clear, engaging, and professionally branded format.

Challenges & Objectives

Project Overview

As the lead designer for the Thiess Group Sustainability Report 2024, I collaborated with stakeholders in Australia to transform hundreds of pages of technical content, operational data, and sustainability achievements into a visually engaging and easy-to-navigate publication.

The report combined executive messaging, ESG performance metrics, operational case studies, environmental initiatives, charts, infographics, photography, and data visualisation into a cohesive publication aligned with Thiess’ corporate identity.

Given its importance to the business, every page required close collaboration with sustainability specialists, communications teams, and executive stakeholders to ensure the report accurately reflected the organisation’s achievements while meeting the highest standards of corporate reporting.

Challenges

Designing the Sustainability Report required balancing technical accuracy with visual storytelling. Large volumes of detailed information, performance data, and regulatory content needed to remain accessible without overwhelming the reader.

The project involved coordinating feedback from multiple stakeholders across Australia, managing numerous review cycles, and maintaining consistency across a high-page-count document while working to tight publication deadlines.

Another key challenge was presenting complex sustainability metrics, environmental initiatives, and operational achievements in a way that was engaging for a diverse audience, including clients, investors, executives, financial institutions, and prospective business partners.

Objectives

The objective of the project was to design a premium corporate publication that clearly communicated Thiess’ sustainability strategy, ESG performance, and progress towards its environmental commitments while reinforcing the organisation’s position as a responsible global mining services provider.

The report aimed to:

  • Showcase Thiess’ sustainability achievements and strategic priorities.
  • Present complex ESG and operational data through clear visual communication.
  • Support transparency and accountability with key stakeholders.
  • Strengthen confidence among existing and prospective clients.
  • Provide a high-quality publication that supports investor confidence and debt refinancing discussions.
  • Reinforce Thiess’ commitment to responsible and sustainable business practices.

Final Outcome

The Thiess Group Sustainability Report 2024 became one of the organisation’s flagship corporate publications, successfully communicating the company’s sustainability journey, ESG performance, and strategic priorities to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

The report provided a transparent view of Thiess’ progress towards its environmental and sustainability goals while supporting business development, strengthening client relationships, and reinforcing confidence among investors and financial institutions. As a high-profile corporate document, it played an important role in demonstrating the organisation’s commitment to responsible business practices and long-term value creation.

The successful delivery of the report also highlighted the value of close collaboration between design and business stakeholders, transforming complex technical information into a publication that was both visually engaging and strategically effective.
